Join us for Tomes, a new quarterly reading group for Big Books - novels over five hundred pages. Tomes meets less regularly than our other reading groups to allow ample time with each book.

This group will be hosted by Carson, our bookshop's Hardback Fiction buyer. The first book we'll be reading is the historical epic Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel.

'Every bit as good as they said it was' Observer

'Terrific' Margaret Atwood

'Terrifying. It is a world of marvels. But it is also a world of horrors, where screams are commonplace. A feast' Daily Telegraph

In this brilliant novel, Hilary Mantel brings the opulent, brutal world of the Tudors to bloody, glittering life. It is the backdrop to the rise and rise of Thomas Cromwell: lowborn boy, charmer, bully, master of deadly intrigue and, finally, most powerful of Henry VIII's courtiers, determined to bring England into a modern age.

Heralded as the greatest English novels of this century, the Wolf Hall trilogy has won two Booker Prizes and been adapted into hugely successful stage plays. The first two books were transformed into a BAFTA- and Golden Globe-winning BBC television series, starring Mark Rylance and Damian Lewis.
