Join Charles Cumming – ‘the rightful inheritor of John le Carré’s crown’ (Observer) – as he introduces Icarus 17, the latest novel in his bestselling Box 88 series.
We follow Lachlan Kite, recruited from school into a shadowy espionage group that operates outside of the law and is hardly known by MI6 and the CIA. Moving through the 90s to the present day, we follow this man’s personal journey, and an up-close portrayal of spycraft’s role in the major geopolitical events of the last few decades.
In the words of David McCloskey, ‘Cumming paints a deeply realistic picture of friendship, loyalty, and betrayal across a canvas of twisty, white-knuckle action and spycraft.’
This event is for both dedicated fans and readers new to the series.
Charles Cumming was born in Scotland in 1971. Shortly after university, he was approached for recruitment by the Secret Intelligence Service (MI6), an experience that inspired his first novel, A Spy by Nature. He has written several bestselling thrillers, including A Foreign Country which won the CWA Ian Fleming Steel Dagger for Best Thriller and the Bloody Scotland Crime Book of the Year. He worked on Sky's acclaimed drama The Day of the Jackal and was the screenwriter of the Gerard Butler movie Plane.
