Children's Imaginative Mending Workshop with Celia Pym for Socks

Join us for a mending workshop with textile artist Celia Pym, to celebrate the publication of her latest book, Socks.

Vouchers cover the cost of a copy of the book and grant access to one adult and one child (8+). An additional £5 voucher can be spent in the bookshop on any book.

For nearly twenty years, Celia has been exploring damage and repair in textiles, with her work held in private collections and museum archives. In early 2024, she facilitated a series of workshops with a school community in London’s Southwark, teaching the children of the Surrey Square Primary School to darn and stitch socks that had been discarded by industry. Socks is the result of this initiative and showcases the 488 socks that were mended in the process. Celia’s event at the bookshop will combine an informal talk about the philosophy of mending together with instruction in how to repair a damaged sock (no need to bring one in—all will be provided).
